SYMPTOMS

If you use Exchange 2000 Server Outlook Web Access (OWA) to reply to or forward a meeting request or e-mail message that has a subject line that contains a colon in the first four characters, the subject may change unexpectedly. Any characters up to and including the colon may be deleted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, if you use Outlook Web Access to reply to or forward meeting requests or e-mail messages that have the following four subject lines
  • abcd: four characters
  • abc: three characters
  • ab: two characters
  • a: one character
the results are as follows:
  • If the subject is "abcd: four characters" (where the colon is the fifth character), the original subject remains intact; if the item is a meeting request, the subject is displayed as follows:

    Accepted: abcd: four characters

If the item is an e-mail message, the subject is displayed as follows:

    re:abcd: four characters

  • If the subject is "abc: three characters" (where the colon is the fourth character), the original subject is stripped of the characters up to and including the colon; if the item is a meeting request, the subject is displayed as follows:

    Accepted: three characters

If the item is an e-mail message, the subject is displayed as follows:

    re: three characters

  • If the subject is "ab: two characters" (where the colon is the third character), the original subject is stripped of the characters up to and including the colon; if the item is a meeting request, the subject is displayed as follows:

    Accepted: two characters

If the item is an e-mail message, the subject is displayed as follows:

    re: two characters

  • If the subject is "a: one character" (where the colon is the second character), the original subject is stripped of the characters up to and including the colon; if the item is a meeting request, the subject is displayed as follows:

    Accepted: one character

If the item is an e-mail message, the subject is displayed as follows:

    re: one character
