XCCC: Error Message: "Your Modification Request Was Denied" When You Extend a Video Conference (256392)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q256392 SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server to join an online conference, and you attempt to extend the conference beyond the original time frame, you may receive the following error message:
Your modification request was denied. One or more providers do not support this action or the resource is not available for the requested time.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the resource is unavailable (Busy) for all or part of the extension specified, or if you have exceeded the maximum extension value specified by the administrator (the default is 60 minutes).
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify that the resource is available. If it is available and you cannot extend the meeting, you have exceeded your extension value. Only the administrator can adjust the maximum extension value.
If the resource is not available, click Change Resource to move the conference to a resource that is available, and then try again to extend the conference.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, create a new conference.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. MORE INFORMATION
If you are an administrator and you want to specify the maximum amount of time the video conference may be extended beyond its original end time, follow these steps:
- Right-click Video Conferencing Provider under the SiteName Conferencing Site object, and then click Properties.
- In the Maximum conference extension time in minutes dialog box, enter the maximum number of minutes the organizer can extend the meeting.
The default setting is 60 minutes, and it applies to all video conferences hosted on the conferencing site. NOTE: The Conference End Time window that organizers use to extend conferences only accepts values in increments of 15 minutes. If the extension value is not measured in increments of 15 minutes, the extension may not register.
If you are the administrator and you want to allow the organizer to extend the conference, follow these steps: - Install Exchange System Manager, and then navigate to OrgName(Exchange)\Administrative Groups\Administrative Group that the Conferencing server belongs to\Conferencing\ object.
- Right-click the SiteName Conferencing Site object, click Properties, and then click Conference Settings.
- Under Permit the following organizer actions during a conference, click Change conference end time.
NOTE: This setting is enabled by default and applies to all conferences hosted on this site.
It is not possible to extend the conference beyond the extension value specified by the administrator. However, a conference may still run beyond the extended time if the administrator has configured a grace period at the end of conferences.
If you are the administrator and you want to configure a grace period, go to Conference Settings. Under Extend scheduled end time for conferences, enter the number of minutes that you want to designate as the grace period, and then click Apply. NOTE: When the administrator designates a grace period beyond the scheduled end time, it applies to all conferences hosted on the conferencing site. This value is applied to the end time of a conference even if the organizer has not extended the conference. The default setting is zero (0) minutes.
The grace period begins after the original meeting time has finished. After you have entered the grace period, the text in the Conference End Time window changes from The conference ends in to The scheduled conference time has been over for. Please note that if the organizer is not allowed to extend conferences, this window is not displayed.
If you are the organizer and you want to extend a conference, follow these steps: - During the conference, click the Extend Time link in the left pane of the Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server window.
- In the Conference End Time window, enter the number of minutes by which you want to extend the conference, and then click OK.
