SUMMARY

When you install Internet Explorer on a Windows 2000-based or a Windows XP-based computer, Internet Explorer Setup updates only a subset of the components that are installed with Internet Explorer on other operating systems. This behavior is designed to minimize the set of protected operating system components that are updated by Internet Explorer and to allow you to upgrade Internet Explorer without introducing other new features. This article describes the Setup behavior of Internet Explorer on a Windows 2000-based or a Windows XP-based computer.

NOTE: To update protected operating system components that are installed with Internet Explorer on other operating systems, install the latest service pack for your version of Windows.
