Windows 2000 Retail Installs as Evaluation Copy (256325)

SYMPTOMS

After you install the retail version of Windows 2000, the computer may display the version as an Evaluation Copy.

If you run Winver.exe, you can see Windows expiration date, and the Evaluation build number appears in the lower-right corner of the desktop.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you run Windows Setup by using the Windows 2000 boot disks that you created from the 120-Day Evaluation CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall Windows 2000 by using the boot disks that you create from the Windows 2000 Retail CD-ROM.
