SYMPTOMS

When you start Media Manager for Windows CE to install Windows Media Player, you may receive the following error message:
The WMMCE.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:GetDiskFreeSpaceExA

CAUSE

This particular API call requires Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) or later. You may be running an earlier operating system.

RESOLUTION

Windows Media Player for Palm-size PC requires you to be running Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or later for installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

The GetDiskFreeSpaceEx function obtains information about the amount of space available on a disk: the total amount of space, the total amount of free space, and the total amount of free space available to the user associated with the calling thread.
