Using NETSH Command to Authorize DHCP Server Generates Parameter Error Messages (255906)

SYMPTOMS

After you use the netsh command to authorize a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, you receive a "The parameter is invalid" error message when you you right-click the server and then click Unauthorize in the DHCP Administration tool.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, quit the DHCP Administration tool, and then stop and restart the DHCP Server service. When you start the DHCP Administration tool again, the server status correctly displays "Unauthorized."

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

After you unauthorize a DHCP server, if you attempt to authorize it again by using the netsh command, the server is still shown as unauthorized. If you quit the DHCP Administration tool, wait about 10 seconds, and then start DHCP Administration again, the server is correctly displayed as authorized.
