OL97: How to Retain an Attached File in a Reply (255868)

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

This article describes how to automatically retain attachments when you reply to messages that contain attached files.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, Outlook does not include attachments when you reply to a message. This keeps the size of replies to a minimum. If you want to keep the attachment information in your reply, you can set Outlook to attach the original message. The attached, original message will also include any original attached files. This results in nested attachments; your reply contains an attached message which, in turn, contains the attached file.
  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the Reading tab, in the When Replying to a Message list, click to select the Attach Original Message check box.
  4. Click OK.
