XWEB: The Outlook Web Access Find Name Feature Ignores Trailing Spaces in the Search Criteria (255352)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q255352

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access (OWA) with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 to search the global address list, the search ignores all trailing spaces in the search criteria. For example, if you search for "user ", the search returns "user1" as well as "user 1". In this example, all names that begin with "user" are returned instead of only the names that have a space after "user ".

CAUSE

The trailing space is removed by OWA when you use Internet Explorer 5.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x with OWA.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
