MORE INFORMATION
Some of the Office 2000 programs list a version number
along with the program name. The version number appears as a six-digit number
separated by periods,
x.x.xxxx. For example, Access 2000 displays the version number as:
Note Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Microsoft FrontPage 2000 display the
version number as a seven-digit number separated by periods,
x.x.x.xxxx.
The last four digits of the version number may be
different from program to program as well. These digits are obtained from
either the Mso9.dll file or the program's EXE file. Microsoft Access 2000,
Microsoft Excel 2000, and Microsoft Word 2000 obtain these numbers from the
Mso9.dll file, and the other Office programs obtain the information from their
respective EXE files.
The following table lists how the version
information appears in each Office 2000 program in the
About Microsoft

Note The version information may change as new updates are installed.
Important Not all updates change the version number that is listed in the
About Microsoft Program dialog box.
When you install an update that does not change the version number that is
listed in the
About Microsoft
Program dialog box, check the version of
your Office program's executable file by using the steps that are listed in the
"How to Verify the Version Property for the Executable File" section.
Note When the update does not include an updated version of the
program's executable file, see the documentation that is provided with your
update to determine the files that are updated and then check the versions of
the updated files.
Note The version information may change as new updates are installed.
By default, Office program files are installed in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
The executable file names are the same for every version of Office
and are as follows:
Excel.exe
Frontpg.exe
Msaccess.exe
Outlook.exe
PowerPnt.exe
Winword.exe
MSPub.exe
How to Verify the Version Property for the Executable File
To search for the appropriate file and to verify your program
version, search your hard drive. To do this, follow these
steps.
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, and then click
Search.
- In the Search Results pane, click
All files and folders under Search
Companion.
- In the All or part of the file name box,
type the appropriate file name as listed earlier, and then click
Search.
- In the resulting list of files, right-click the file, and
then click Properties.
- On the Version tab, determine the version
of the file that is installed on your computer.
