This article was previously published under Q255143 SYMPTOMS
When you embed Visio 5.0 shapes in a Microsoft Word 97 document and save the Word document as an HTML file, a colored background appears behind the shapes. If any of the embedded shapes are two-dimensional and have no fill, these shapes appear filled with the color of the background.

After embedding these shapes
in a Word 97 document
and saving the document as an HTML file,
a colored
background appears behind the shapes.
RESOLUTION
To prevent Word from changing the background color of embedded Visio 5.0 shapes, manually place a background rectangle behind the shapes before you embed them in the Word document.
To draw a background rectangle manually: - In Visio 5.0, open the file that contains the shapes that you want to include in the Word 97 HTML file.
- Click the Rectangle tool on the Standard toolbar, and then draw a rectangle around the shapes that you want to embed in the Word document.
The rectangle appears on top of the shapes. - With the rectangle selected:
- Send the rectangle behind the shapes by pressing CTRL+B.
- Remove the outline of the rectangle by clicking Line on the Format menu, clicking None in the Pattern list, and then clicking OK.
- (Optional.) Specify a background color other than white by clicking Fill on the Format menu, selecting the patterns and colors that you want, and then clicking OK.
- Embed the shapes into the Word 97 document and save the document as an HTML file.
The color behind the Visio 5.0 shapes no longer changes.
