SUMMARY

This article describes how to open Works 3.0 document, spreadsheet, and database files, within Works 6 and Works Suite 2001.

MORE INFORMATION

Files that are created in Works 3.0 do not appear in the Works Task Launcher after you upgrade to Works 6 or Works Suite 2001.

To open a document, database, or spreadsheet file that was created in Works 3.0, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Works Task Launcher.
  2. On the Programs tab, click to start the program that you want (Works Word Processor, Works Spreadsheet, or Works Database).
  3. On the File menu, click Open.
  4. In the Open dialog box, select the file that you want, and then click Open.
After you open and then save a document in Works 6, the document appears on the History tab of the Works Task Launcher. To open a document that appears on the History tab, click the file name; the correct Works program starts and opens the file that you want.

You cannot batch convert multiple Works 3.0 files and make them all appear on the Works Task Launcher; however, any Works 3.0 file that you open in Works 6 or Works Suite 2001 appears on the Task Launcher.

If you cannot open a Works 3.0 file in Works 6 or Works Suite 2001, your Works installation may be faulty, or there may be a problem with your computer. If Works was provided with your computer, contact the computer manufacturer for instructions. If you installed Works 6 or Works Suite 2001 as an upgrade to Works 3.0, your installation may be faulty. Microsoft recommends that you uninstall and then reinstall Works. To do this, insert the Works installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive and follow the instructions in the Installation Wizard.
