This article was previously published under Q255063

SYMPTOMS

When you try to view or listen to a type of multimedia file through Internet Explorer 5, you may receive error messages about being unable to install codecs or about the file format of a multimedia file being unsupported.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you may need to download a plug-in for that type of multimedia file. However, Internet Explorer plays most multimedia content formats located on the Internet or your computer, including Advanced Streaming Format (ASF), Real Audio/RealVideo 4.0, QuickTime, Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI), WAV, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), and MP3.
