Works: The Ruler Command Is Unavailable in Works Word Processor (255045)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Ruler command in Microsoft Works Word Processor, the command may be unavailable.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you quit Works Word Processor while the Print Preview window is open.

In subsequent sessions of Works Word Processor, the Ruler command is unavailable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and then reinstall Works:

  1. Insert the Works CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If Works Setup does not start automatically, click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  2. On the Welcome Back screen, click Next.
  3. On the Options screen, click Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Works 2000 from your computer.
  5. Click Start, and then click Run.
  6. Type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  7. On the Welcome Screen, click Next.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Works 2000 on your computer.
To prevent this issue from occurring, click Close Print Preview on the File menu before you quit Works Word Processor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Ruler command is not available in the Print Preview window. If you quit Works Word Processor while the Print Preview window is still open, you quit Works before the Ruler command is restored.
