Error Message: Setup Does Not Have Enough Conventional Memory to Check Your Computers Hard Disks (254953)

When you upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition, you may receive the following error message:
Setup does not have enough conventional memory to check your computer's hard disks. You need to free some conventional memory before continuing.

CAUSE
This issue can occur if your hard disk is marked as removable.
NOTE: The Setup.txt file on the Windows Millennium Edition CD-ROM contains a list of other reasons that can cause this issue.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify that the disk where you are installing Windows Millennium Edition is not incorrectly marked as a removable device.
Contact the manufacturer of the disk if you are unsure whether or not it should be marked as removable.
To determine if the disk is marked as removable and to change its status follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Disk Drives, and then double-click the disk that represents your hard disk.
- On the Settings tab, click to clear the Removable check box, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then restart the computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Millennium Edition.
