Updating Mouse Driver May Cause Mouse to Hang (254923)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q254923 SYMPTOMS
After you change your mouse driver, your mouse may stop responding.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your computer uses Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) power management. If it does, updating the mouse driver can cause the mouse to stop responding. Changing the mouse driver causes the first driver to unload, but the new driver does not automatically assume control of the mouse. Although the driver normally acknowledges
hardware changes, because the hardware is not physically changing with the update, the driver will not "see" the mouse until after you reboot to initialize the driver and hardware together.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, press ENTER twice to complete the driver installation and permit your computer to restart.
