SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup from an administrative installation that has been updated to SR-1, the Setup process may not automatically continue after you initially restart your computer to update the Windows Installer.

CAUSE

The Setup process may not continue automatically if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You do not have Windows Installer 1.1 installed before you run Setup.
  • Office 2000 is installed on the client computer.
  • You are running Setup from an administrative installation that has been updated to SR-1.
  • You are using a mapped drive to your administrative installation.
  • You did not select the Reconnect at Logon check box in the Map Network Drive dialog box, when you created the mapped drive.
This behavior occurs because Office Setup creates a registry key called RunOnce that contains the mapped drive letter, but that drive letter mapping does not exist when you restart your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the appropriate method for your situation.

You Ran SR-1 Setup But It Does Not Continue After You Restart the Computer

If you ran SR-1 Setup on a computer with Office 2000 already installed, and SR-1 Setup did not continue after the initial restart, follow these steps:
  1. Map a network drive to your SR-1 installation location.
  2. Click to select the Reconnect at logon check box in the Map Network Drive dialog box.
  3. Re-run setup from the SR-1 installation location.

You Have Not Yet Run SR-1 Setup

If you have not yet run Setup for SR-1 and you are going to use a mapped drive to your SR-1 installation location, make sure the Reconnect a logon check box is selected when you map the drive. After you have mapped the drive, run Setup from the SR-1 installation location.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you run SR-1 Setup on a computer with Office 2000 already installed, the first thing Setup does is to upgrade to Windows Installer version 1.1. Because Windows Installer version 1.0 is running when you run SR-1 Setup, you must restart your computer to complete the version 1.1 upgrade.
