The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q254754 SYMPTOMS When you try to join external data to a Visio Maps layer,
you may receive the following error message: Error
joining attributes from the external file to the map layer
CAUSE This error message can occur if:
- You try to join an external data file to a map layer while
the external data file is open in another application. Make sure the file is
not open in another application before you try to join the data to a map layer.
- The external data file you are trying to join is a
Microsoft Excel 97 file. Data Access Objects (DAO) 3.0 does not contain a
driver for Excel 97. Therefore, you must save your Excel 97 data files to an
older version of Excel before you try to join the data to a map layer. When you
save to an older version of Excel, make sure to use a new file name to prevent
data loss.
- The DAO 3.0 drivers are not properly installed.
RESOLUTION To reinstall DAO 3.0, download and run VMAPS10A.exe.
