SYMPTOMS

The sc-bytes extended logging property is always 0 for GET requests for ASP files. If the posted data is not read by the destination script, the sc-bytes extended logging property records 89 for POST requests.

CAUSE

ASP buffering is enabled.

WORKAROUND

If both the logic of the ASP file and the display of the page permit ASP buffering to be disabled, turn off ASP buffering.

Steps to reproduce the problem

To reproduce the problem in Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Internet Service Manager (ISM).

    ISM loads the Internet Information Server (IIS) snap-in for Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  2. Right-click a Web site that contains at least one ASP file, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Web Site tab, click to select the Enable Logging check box, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Extended Properties tab, and then click to select the Bytes Sent (sc-bytes) check box.
  5. Click OK to return to the Properties dialog box, and then click the Home Directory tab.
  6. In the Application Settings section, click Configuration.
  7. Click the App Options tab, and then click to select the Enable buffering check box.
  8. Click OK two times to return to the IIS snap-in.
  9. Locate an ASP file on the Web site.
  10. Open the log file for the Web site.

    Typically, this log file is located in the %WinDir%\System32\LogFiles directory. Notice that the sc-bytes extended logging property is 0 bytes.
