Custom/Complete Installation
The
Custom/Complete installation option allows you to select the components that you would like to install. To install the complete product, check all the items on the
Setup Options list. By default this installation option includes VBA 5.0, ODBC 3.5 and DAO 3.5.
See also: the "System Requirements" section at the beginning of this article.
Installing the Upgrade Version
To install the Visio 5.0 upgrade, you must own an earlier version of Visio, Visio Technical, or Visio Professional. If you do not own an earlier version of Visio, you need the full Visio 5.0 version.
See also: the "System Requirements" section at the beginning of this article.
If Visio 5.0 Setup detects an earlier version of Visio on your system, it prompts you to remove or back up your existing templates and stencils. Choose the backup option to move all earlier templates and stencils to a backup folder called "Prior Version Files," that the Setup program creates in the main Visio folder. Choose the remove option to remove all of the earlier version's files with the 5.0 files.
Whether you choose to back up or remove the existing files, Visio Setup does not move or replace stencil or template files that you created.
Installing the Upgrade When the Earlier Version Is Not Installed
If you currently own an earlier version of Visio, Visio Technical, or Visio Professional, and the program is no longer installed on your computer, the Setup program for your 5.0 upgrade will prompt you to enter the earlier version's serial number. You can find the serial number for your earlier version on the registration card. If you have the serial number, you do not need to install the earlier version before you upgrade to 5.0.
Network Installation Requirements
To install and use Visio 5.0 on a network, your server must support 32-bit applications and long file names. If you use a Novell server, OS/2 NameSpace must be installed before you install and use Visio 5.0.
For instructions on installing Visio for distribution or shared use from a network server, see the Network.txt file in the main Visio folder, either on the Visio CD or on the computer on which you installed the 5.0 product.
