Visio Standard Improvements from Version 5.0a to 5.0b

Visio Standard 5.0b includes the following improvements and problem fixes:

• The IGS, JPG, BMP, EPS, AI, DSF, GIF, and DWF filters give better results.
• The header and footer option "Page # of #" prints correctly.
• Dynamic connectors maintain manual routing in many more instances; for example, when you group or move a selection of shapes.
• Page numbering on Visio drawings in Microsoft Binder 97 binders function correctly.
• The appropriate Help topic opens when you select a ShapeSheet cell and press F1.
• Control points appear on a dynamic connector when you select it with the pointer tool or connector tool.
• When you make one-dimensional (1-D) shapes routable through Visual Basic for Applications and Automation, you can glue their endpoints to two-dimensional (2-D) shapes.
• Colored text and lines print as black (instead of white) on a black and white printer.
• The DWG Display Component supports Autodesk AutoCAD R14 and in-place editing if IntelliCAD 98 by Visio is installed on your computer.
  
  Most entities are supported. Entities the Display Component does not support include Fill, Hatch, Shape, Proxy/Zombie, and TrueType fonts.

• If a three-dimensional (3-D) drawing appears cut off around the edges, you can use the Crop tool to resize the DWG boundaries to view the entire drawing.
• If you have IntelliCAD 98 installed and you are having trouble opening or inserting DWG drawings in Visio, perform the following to correct the IntelliCAD and Visio entries in the registry:
  
  1) To reregister IntelliCAD 98, start and then close the program.
  
  2) To re-register Visio, click Start, click Run, and then type visio32.exe /r in the Open dialog box (be sure to include a space between the "Visio32.exe" and the "/").

Visio Professional improvements from version 5.0a to 5.0b

Visio Technical improvements from version 5.0a to 5.0b

Visio Technical 5.0b includes the changes listed in the "Visio Standard" section, plus the following:

• Shapes on the stencil EE - Analog and Digital Logic.VSS (an Electrical and Electronic stencil), snap and align to the drawing-page grid the way you expect.

• New flowchart data template files.
• Right-clicking a control inserted in a Visio drawing gives expected results when the Visio drawing is closed.
• When you edit a Microsoft Excel 97 object in place in a Visio drawing, Excel does not shut down unexpectedly when you click the New toolbar button.
• Custom patterns display correctly on a scaled drawing page.
• Dropping 1-D shapes works correctly on a scaled drawing page with a ruler origin other than the lower-left corner of the page.
• Higher fidelity for drawings that you save in GIF, JPEG, or WMF file formats.
• Double-byte and export problems are addressed in the Database Wizard.
• Minor problems are addressed in Visio Help, Project Timeline Help, and the Visio Automation Reference.
• C/C++ support libraries in the DVS folder include minor enhancements.

• The Network Database Wizard links shapes properly when the database is not sorted by the segment field, and handles the Network layer correctly when you use the wizard with sample files.
• The Flowchart Database Wizard handles the Flowchart layer correctly when you use it with sample files.
• The Web Diagram Wizard includes back functionality and works with certain URL formats, remote links, and blank documents.
• Several problems are addressed in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) solution.

When you install Visio Technical 5.0b over Visio 5.0, you get all of the updates listed in the "Visio Technical Improvements from Version 5.0a to 5.0b" section, plus the following new updates and problem fixes:

• All of the improvements listed in the "Visio Standard Improvements from Version 5.0 to 5.0b" section.
• The Mechanical Parts Library works correctly when you open a shape that doesn't have a view inherited from a previously selected shape.
• The DWG Converter interprets AutoCAD coordinates and ruler unit changes better.
• Minor problems are fixed in the General Dimensioning stencils.
• The Blocklib.dwg sample file displays correctly.
