Visio5: "Visio Requires Windows 95 or Windows NT or Later" Error Occurs After You Install Service Release C for Visio 5.0 Programs (254466)

This article was previously published under Q254466 SYMPTOMS After you install the International English version of
Service Release C (Business Bonus Pack) for Visio 5.0, you receive the
following error message when you try to run Visio: Visio
requires Windows 95 or Windows NT or later After you receive this
error message, you cannot run Visio. CAUSE The error occurs if you downloaded and installed a
corrupted International English version of the Service Release C file over
Visio 5.0b. The corrupted file was available on the Visio Web site for several
hours on 22 October 1998.
NOTE: If you installed Service Release C over Visio 5.0 or 5.0a you
will not experience this error. However, Microsoft recommends that you also
restore the earlier version of Visio. RESOLUTION To resolve the problem, you must restore the earlier
version of Visio. To restore the earlier version of Visio:- Uninstall Visio.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab of the Add/Remove Programs
Properties dialog box, select Visio, and then click Add/Remove.
- Reinstall your earlier version of Visio.
If
your earlier version was 5.0a or 5.0b, you must first install Visio 5.0 and
then install Service Release A or B. (If Visio 5.0b was your earlier version,
you do not need to install both service release files. Service Release B
includes all of the Visio 5.0a and 5.0b updates.)
