Custom EAP Data Lost in Upgrade from Version Earlier Than Windows 2000 RC2 (254267)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q254267

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade from a version of Microsoft Windows 2000 earlier than Release Candidate 2 (RC2), you lose the custom data from the client implementation of an Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), data that can be optionally saved as information associated with a connection. An example of such custom data is the user's personal identification number (PIN).

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of a one-time change in data structures when you upgrade the client from a version of Windows 2000 earlier than RC2.
