PPT2000: Graph 2000 Value Axis Display Units Are Not Retained When You Save in Earlier Graph Formats (254217)

SUMMARY

When you save a PowerPoint presentation in the format for an earlier version, any embedded graphs in the presentation lose the Display Units feature of Graph 2000.

The Graph conversion utility inside PowerPoint 2000 does not alter the number formatting of the datasheet or either axis. The Display Units feature does not alter the formatting of the data, but only the display of the data.

If you plan on sharing your presentation with earlier versions of PowerPoint, you can format the value axis in Graph to look identical to the way it does when the Display Units feature is selected.

Creating Custom Number Formats

  1. Click the Y value axis.
  2. On the Format menu, click Number.
  3. In the Category list, click Custom.
  4. In the Type box, edit the number format codes as shown below to create the format that you want:
        Display units     Custom number format  
    --------------------------------------
    hundreds          No equivalent        
    thousands         #,
    millions          #,,
    billions          #,,,
    trillions         #,,,,
  5. Click OK.
This alters the number format. For example, a custom format of #,, displays 20,000,000 as 20.

You may consider altering the label for the value axis so that it indicates the actual scale of the numbers shown, for example: "Property Values (millions)."
