If an Active Directory user (User1) has a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox, and User1 installs Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, User1 will have two mailboxes. In the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program, the Mailbox Administrator points to the Active Directory account. In Active Directory Users and Computers, User1 has an Exchange 2000 mailbox.
CAUSE
The account used during installation has an administrative mailbox created and associated with it.
RESOLUTION
Delete the Exchange 2000 mailbox associated with User1. Manually add a postmaster@<domain> address on the E-mail addresses tab in the properties of the user or group that should get postmaster mail.
