BackOffice 4.5 Setup Does Not Install Exchange Server with Long Organization or Site Name (253743)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 on Windows 2000 Server by using the BackOffice 4.5 Setup program, the following error message may appear:
Your BackOffice Server Installation
The following applications did not install correctly

BackOffice Programs   Problem
Exchange Server       Exchange Server did not successfully
                      set the display names.
					
Also, the Exchange Server installation process may seem to stop responding (hang) when both progress indicators are at 100 percent. When this occurs, Task Manager indicates that Microsoft Exchange Server Setup is not responding. Choosing to end this task results in BackOffice Setup displaying the error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the organization or site name that you type during Setup is longer than 64 characters.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, install Exchange Server by using organization and site names with less than 64 characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem when you are running BackOffice Server 4.5 on Microsoft Windows 2000.
