How to Customize Secure Logon, Redial, and Idle Settings in Dial-Up Networking Connections (253573)

To connect to the Internet, you must have a working Dial-Up Networking connection. To create a new Dial-Up Networking connection in Windows Millennium Edition (Me):

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Dial-Up Networking.
2. Double-click Make New Connection, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish creating the connection.

Windows Me provides options to set up your secure logon credentials, and customize redial and idle options.

To set up your secure logon credentials:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Dial-Up Networking.
2. Right-click the Dial-Up Networking connection that you want to customize, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
3. Type your user name, password, domain name, and then click OK.
   
   NOTE: If you are not sure if you need this information to log on to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your network, check with the ISP or your system administrator.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each Dial-Up Networking connection that you want to customize.

To configure your redial settings and enable idle disconnect settings:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Dial-Up Networking.
2. Right-click the Dial-Up Networking connection that you want to customize, click Properties, and then click the Dialing tab.
3. Adjust the settings that you want to use for this connection, and then click OK.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each Dial-Up Networking connection that you want to customize.
