The information in this article applies to:

- Microsoft Works Suite 2000
- Microsoft Works 6
This article was previously published under Q253511 SYMPTOMS
When you click a spreadsheet or database link on the History tab in the Microsoft Works 2000 Task Launcher, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Cannot access the document filename. The document may already be open or it may be a read-only document.
Cannot access the document filename. The document may already be open or it may be a read-only document.
The name of the document may be invalid, the document may no longer exist, or it may already be open. If you run Works from a network, you may have to wait until someone else closes Works.
When you click OK, the linked spreadsheet or database file and a new blank file are opened. NOTE: This behavior may also occur when you click a link to a Microsoft Home Publishing 2000 publication on the History tab in the Works 2000 Task Launcher. Home Publishing 2000 is a component of Microsoft Works Suite 2000. CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you double-click the spreadsheet or database link on the History tab in the Works 2000 Task Launcher.
When you double-click the link, the Works 2000 Task Launcher attempts to open two instances of the linked file. Although the first instance of the file opens successfully, the second instance of the file generates the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this issue from occurring, make sure that you click the spreadsheet or database link on the History tab in the Works 2000 Task Launcher only once.
