XCCC: Secure Video Conferencing Authentication (252866)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server

This article was previously published under Q252866

SYMPTOMS

The Exchange 2000 Video Conferencing Service provided by way of the Telephony API 3.0 (TAPI) specification does not provide encryption during participant authentication at this time. Because of this, participants who join a secure video conference use the Network LAN Manager (NTLM) to authenticate, by default.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

A secure conference signifies that external attendees are not allowed to participate in the conference. The conference organizer selects this option in Microsoft Outlook 2000 during the booking of the conference.

The conferencing NTLM authentication method compares the participant's user account to the list of users invited to the conference. If there is a match, the secure conference ASP join page opens for the participant in his or her browser.
