The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Expedia Streets 98
- Microsoft Expedia Trip Planner 98
This article was previously published under Q252809 SYMPTOMS When you try to use the GPS features in Microsoft Streets
and Trips or Microsoft MapPoint, you may not be able to use or configure your
GPS device. CAUSE This behavior can occur if you have not installed the GPS
components. RESOLUTION To install the GPS components, use the following methods in
the order in which they are presented. Install Your GPS Receiver- Insert the Streets and Trips or the MapPoint Setup CD-ROM
into the CD-ROM drive.
Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you
insert the CD-ROM to prevent Setup from starting automatically. - Double-click My Computer on the
desktop.
- Right-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Setup
CD-ROM, and then click Install GPS.
- Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard to install your
GPS receiver.
Configure Your GPS Receiver- On the Tools menu in Streets and Trips or
in MapPoint, point to GPS, and then click Configure
GPS Receiver.
- Select an available communications (COM) port from the
list, and then click Next.
Note If you are configuring your GPS device on a computer that is
running ActiveSync, the COM port that you are trying to use to establish a
connection between your Streets and Trips or Map Point program and the GPS
device may not be listed in the configuration interface for setting up your GPS
device. This issue may occur if ActiveSync is running and is configured to use
the same COM port to which you are trying to attach your GPS device. To work
around this issue, temporarily disable ActiveSync when you configure or use
your GPS device with Streets and Trips or Map Point. - Click OK.
