OL2000: Error Message When You Automatically Synchronize Offline Folders (252726)

SYMPTOMS

When you configure Outlook to automatically synchronize your offline folders, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Synchronization with the offline folders could not be completed. The structure size is incorrect.

-or-

The File Structure is not valid

CAUSE

You have downloaded and installed the OST File Integrity Checker utility.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must remove the OST File Checker Utility, rename two files, and then run the Office 2000 Repair feature.

Remove the OST File Checker Utility

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of programs on the Install/Uninstall tab, click OST File Checker Utility.
  4. Click Add/Remove, and then click Yes.

Find and Rename Two Files

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files and Folders. Search your local hard drive and rename the following files by right-clicking the file, and then clicking Rename on the shortcut menu:
    • Rename the Emsmdb32.dll file, Emsmdb32.old.
    • Rename the Mspst32.dll file, Mspst32.old.
For more information about renaming files and folders, click the Startbutton, and then click Help. On the Search tab, type rename, and then click List Topics to view the topic.

Run Repair Office

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Office 2000, click Add/Remove, and then click Repair Office.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
