SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to create a new Web folder, the Web Folder wizard may seem to complete successfully, but you do not have a new icon in Web Folders.
You may see a shortcut in the Network Neighborhood folder.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if there is a value missing from the registry.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, use Regedit to add the IsShortcut value to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile
To do so:
- Right-click lnkfile, point to New, and then click string value.
- Rename the value name from "new value #1" to IsShortcut.
- Leave the value data blank, and then click OK.
MORE INFORMATION
The IsShortcut links the shortcut in Network Neighborhood to Web Folders. If the shortcut is missing in Web Folders, Internet Explorer cannot open the Web Folder.
