OL2000: Some Folders Are Empty After You Import Messages (252513)

This article was previously published under Q252513 SYMPTOMS
When you import messages from a Qualcomm Eudora mail client into Outlook, some folders may be imported without their contents.
CAUSE
The .toc files (table of contents files) are missing from the Eudora folders that are imported without contents. The required .toc files index the messages for each mailbox and are required when you import messages into Outlook.
When you transfer messages from Qualcomm Eudora for Macintosh to Qualcomm Eudora for Windows, you may also see this problem. Macintosh computers do not use .toc files, so when you import the Eudora mail into Microsoft Windows, there are no .toc files and the import procedure does not work.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, create a new mailbox in Eudora, move the messages from the mailbox that was not imported correctly, and then import the messages into Outlook again.
How to Move the Messages to a New Mailbox- Start Eudora for Windows.
- On the Tools menu, click Mailboxes.
- In the Mailbox view, right click the Eudora Mail folder (the root folder), and then click New.
- Type in a name for the mailbox, and then click OK.
- In the mailbox that contains messages that were import correctly, click the first message in the mailbox, scroll to the last message in the mailbox, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the last message to select the list of messages.
- Drag the messages that you selected to the mailbox that you created in step 3 and step 4.
- Repeat step 5 and step 6 for all mailboxes that did not import correctly into Outlook, and then quit Eudora.
NOTE: Folders in Eudora can only contain mailboxes and not messages. In Outlook, folders can contain both mailboxes and messages, so you do not need mailboxes.
How to Import the Messages into Outlook- Start Outlook.
- On the File menu, click Import and Export.
- Click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
- Click Eudora (Pro and Light) 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, click the items that you want to import (mail or addresses), and then click Next or Finish.
- If you clicked Next, click the option to import contacts, and then click Finish.
