SYMPTOMS

When you set up the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes in an environment in which Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 sends and receives all of the Internet mail, the Exchange Notes Connector may append the From line with @SMTP@Exchange (or with the name that you chose for your Exchange environment as a foreign domain in Lotus Notes).

CAUSE

This problem can occur because earlier versions of the Exchange Notes Connector need to append the address to properly resolve the address and route the message to the Internet by means of Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The Exchange version of the Exchange Notes Connector can determine an Internet address by the way that the address is formed; therefore, this appendage is no longer necessary.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, verify that you are routing all outbound SMTP mail to the Exchange server by another foreign domain document, as described in the Exchange Help (the default Help location is Systemroot\Program files\Exchsrvr\Bin\Exadmin.chm), and then disable the address appending by adding the MEXOUT_INCAPSULATESMTP registry value.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

NOTE: The information about Registry Editor in this article applies to Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Windows 2000.

To add the MEXOUT_INCAPSULATESMTP registry value:
  1. Start Regedt32.exe.
  2. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LME-NOTES\Parameters\

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, in the Value Name box type MEXOUT_INCAPSULATESMTP, and then in the Data Type box type REG_SZ.
  4. When you are prompted for the string, type FALSE.
  5. Restart the Exchange Notes Connector service.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
