XADM: Exchange 2000 Online Backup Does Not Checksum Uninitialized Pages (251931)

SUMMARY

In Exchange 2000, an online backup does not check some uninitialized pages. If an uninitialized page is altered, the backup software backs up the database without reporting an error. However, if a page that is in use is altered or damaged, backup properly detects the change, and the backup operation can stop responding with a JET_errReadVerifyFailure error.

NOTE: In Exchange 2000, it is normal to contain uninitialized pages.
