XGEN: Error Message: The Setup Engine Failed to Install a Component (251893)

SYMPTOMS

When you are attempting to install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, you may receive the following error message:
The setup engine failed to install a component.

CAUSE

You are logged on to the Exchange 2000 computer as the administrator for the local computer.

RESOLUTION

Log on to the Exchange 2000 computer as the domain administrator, and run Setup again.

STATUS

This behavior is by design as Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server requires you to be logged on to a domain.

To confirm the account and context that you are logged on to the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server as, press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys simultaneously. The Logon Information dialog box displays either:

Accountname is logged on as Machinename\Accountname

-or-

Accountname is logged on as Domainname\Accountname

Where Accountname is the Windows 2000 account, Machinename is the Windows 2000 computer name, and Domainname is the Windows 2000 domain name.
