XIMS: Active.lst file Is Not Supported in Exchange 2000 Server NNTP Service (251799)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q251799 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 and 5.5 allow you to import newsgroups for a particular news feed through what is known as an Active file. This Active file is provided by the Usenet hub, or you create one using Telnet. Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server NNTP service does not support imports from this file.
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. WORKAROUND
To add newsgroups to which you would like to subscribe:
- Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a file with the following lines:
215 start
newsgroup1
newsgroup2
newsgroup3
.
Save this file. You will use it in conjunction with the Rgroup.vbs utility.
In this example, Newsgroup1 through Newsgroup3 are the names of the newsgroups to which you want to subscribe. You can list only one newsgroup on each line, but the list can contain as many lines as you want. - Verify that the Rgroup.vbs file exists in the following folder.
X:\SystemRoot\System32\Inetsrv
- To add the newsgroups, run the Rgroup.vbs script with the following parameters, where [filename] is the text file saved in the previous step:
rgroup.vbs -t l -a [path to the filename]. Example: rgroup.vbs -t l -a C:\active.txt.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
