XADM: Exchange 2000 Uninstall Procedure on a Cluster Node Encounters an Error if Services Are Still Running (251778)

SYMPTOMS

If you do not stop all Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server services on all cluster nodes before you uninstall Exchange 2000 from a node in a cluster, error messages appear, and Setup cannot uninstall all Exchange 2000 components.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. You must stop all Exchange 2000 services in the cluster before you perform an uninstall procedure. The error message you receive during this process may vary depending upon which service is left running.

RESOLUTION

Use Cluster Administrator to manually stop Exchange 2000 services, and then begin the uninstall procedure.
