XADM: Logon.asp Fields Are Not Entered When the RoleAdmin Program Is Used (251496)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the role administration program (RoleAdmin) from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on a computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server, the fields in the Logon.asp page are not automatically entered. In a Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Exchange Server 5.5 configuration, these fields are automatically entered.

In addition, if you enter the organization, site, and server names manually, RoleAdmin does not function correctly.

CAUSE

When you enter the fields manually, RoleAdmin does not function correctly because the canonical name (CN) naming contexts between the Exchange Server 5.5 directory service and Active Directory are different; there is no Exchange 2000 equivalent of the Site object.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

The CN of a directory object is the distinguished name rendered in a more friendly way. In this case, the distinguished name would be rendered in the following format:
  • The root is listed first.
  • The name is "/" delimited.
  • LDAP attribute tags (CN=, DC=) are removed.
For example, the CN of the following distinguished name:

CN=New,OU=MyOU,DC=Microsoft,DC=Com

is rendered as:

Microsoft.Com/MyOU/New

RoleAdmin is a sample program that uses Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) to create distribution lists in Exchange Server 5.5 from a Web-based interface. The program can be found on the Exchange Server 5.5 SP3 CD-ROM in the \\Eng\Server\Support\Collab\Sampler\Routing\Winnt directory.
