SUMMARY

Installing Recovery Console on the local hard disk causes the attributes of the Boot.ini file to be changed. By default, the System and Hidden attributes are set. Installing Recovery Console adds the Read-Only and Archive attributes. If you removed attributes from the Boot.ini file previously, the System and Hidden attributes are also set again.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install Recovery Console on the local hard disk, an entry is added to the Boot.ini file. After this entry is written, the Boot.ini file is saved with the changed attributes. This does not occur if you boot from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM and start Recovery Console, or if you use the four boot floppy disks. Using the boot floppy disks or booting from the CD-ROM does not create the Boot.ini entry, so the file is not modified.
