INFO: Some MSN Released Versions Are Incompatible with Windows 2000 (251163)

This article applies only to upgrades from Windows 95 or Windows 98 to Windows 2000.

If you try to use MSN version 1.3, 2.5, or 2.6 after upgrading to Windows 2000, the following error conditions will result:

• MSN 2.6: Starting MSN 2.6 causes a message to appear saying that the application is not compatible with Windows 2000.
• MSN 1.3: Starting MSN 1.3 also results in the warning message. In addition, the MSN icon is removed from the desktop. Attempts to connect to the MSN network fail.
• MSN 1.3 upgraded to 2.5: This configuration is also incompatible for migration to Windows 2000. Upon migration, the MSN software is partially uninstalled. No shortcuts are left on the desktop or Start menu. The MSN dial-out connection will remain in the Connection Manager, but using this connection fails.

Note that the MSN versions listed in this article would be included in the upgrade report generated by the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer. You can use the Readiness Analyzer before upgrading, invoking it from the command line or downloading it from the Web:
