BUG: Windows Installer Dialog Boxes Appear Magnified if MS Sans Serif Font Is Missing or Corrupted (251028)

SYMPTOMS

When you install a program with Windows Installer, the user interface displays large scroll bars and dialog boxes with the text magnified many times. Other applications appear normal.

CAUSE

The Windows Installer determines the size of the text to be displayed based upon an installed version of the MS Sans Serif font. If this font is missing or corrupted, the size of the user interface text is improperly calculated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the MS Sans Serif font.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Delete the Micross.ttf file from the \Fonts folder.
  2. Double-click any .msi package. The user dialog boxes will appear improperly.
Note The MS Sans Serif font is available on the operating system CD-ROMs.
