Incorrect Week Numbers in the Calendar Tool (251020)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Calendar tool on your Windows CE-based device, the numbers for weeks may be incorrect.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because every week of the year is associated with a number. In Windows CE-based devices (as of January 2000), week number 1 is the week of January 1. However, the International Organization for Standardization standard for week numbering uses the first week in January that contains a Thursday. Because of this difference, the numbers for weeks can become incorrect.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The first week number is established during the first part of January. Depending where week number 1 begins, the week numbers can become incorrect. The following list provides examples of where week number 1 could begin:
  1. The week of January 1.
  2. The first week in January that contains a Thursday.
  3. The first full week in January.
Also, Microsoft Outlook can use all 3 of the above scenarios. However, the default setting for the US version of Outlook is the same as your Windows CE-based device. The default setting for localized versions of Outlook is the International Organization for Standardization standard of the first week in January that contains a Thursday.

The International Organization for Standardization standard is used by most countries in Europe, and this issue may not be a problem in the United States.
