Using OSE Admin Pages Takes up 100% of CPU (250933)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2000 Server Extensions

This article was previously published under Q250933

SYMPTOMS

If the SQL Server Service is stopped when you try to manage or delete Office Web Subscriptions using the Office Server Extensions Administration Pages, the page seems to freeze and the processor runs at 100 percent.

NOTE: The Office Server Extensions Administration Pages are located at http://<ServerName>/msoffice/msoadmin/. To manage Web Subscriptions, use http://<ServerName>/msoffice/msoadmin/delsubs.asp (where <ServerName> is the name of your Office Extended Web Server).

CAUSE

The code within the Delsubs.asp page contains a loop that continuously tries to enumerate the subscriptions. When the SQL service is stopped, the ASP page ignores the failure and tries to enumerate the subscriptions anyway. This creates an infinite loop to populate the grid control where Web subscriptions are managed and thereby uses 100 of the processor.

The World Wide Web Publishing Service must be restarted on the server to end the loop.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
