Internet Mail and Internet News Unusable After Uninstalling Windows 98 SE (250827)

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Windows 98 Second Edition back to restore your original Windows 95 installation, the Internet News and Internet Mail icons do not start the programs. However, you are able to start Internet Explorer and connect to the Internet.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if some of the mail and news components are uninstalled when you uninstall Windows 98 Second Edition.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, download and install Microsoft Internet Mail and News from the following Microsoft Web site: NOTE: From this Web page, click Download, and then click Other Options to find the correct version of this program.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
