SYMPTOMS

After you insert a CD-ROM that contains a customized autorun window for Internet Explorer, there are two option buttons on the right side of the window that are displayed as black boxes.

The black boxes are really 3D bitmaps.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the background bitmap that was chosen for the CD-ROM autorun window has many colors, or uses a color palette that uses similar colors that are being used for the buttons on the window.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use a background bitmap that has fewer colors or different colors than the buttons, or use a graphic that has some blank space on the right side of the graphic.

For example create a blank bitmap that is 540x347 pixels, then insert a graphic that is less then 540 pixels wide leaving blank space on the right side of the final graphic.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
