CG5: Clip Gallery Quits Unexpectedly the First Time You Try to Insert Clip Art (250473)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q250473

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use Clip Gallery 5.0 to insert clip art for the first time, you may receive the following message:

Clip Gallery is now configured to run on your computer.

When you click OK, Clip Gallery quits.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you log on to a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer as a member of a restricted user group.

The first time you use Clip Gallery, the program needs to modify the Windows registry. If you log on to the computer as a member of a restricted user group, you do not have sufficient rights to modify the registry, so Clip Gallery quits.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, the administrator for the Windows 2000 computer must log on and run the Clip Gallery program. All the necessary settings will be set at that time, and members of restricted user groups will be allowed to use Clip Gallery.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
