Management Agents are used to define and contol the relationship between a Connected Directory and the Metadirectory. Management Agents are a synchronization process controller. There is one Management Agent for each connected directory. Each Management Agent contains templates, attributes flow rules, inclusions, and exclusions.

There are four types of Management Agents that are included with MMS:

• Pre-defined Management Agents
• Templates for Custom Management Agents
• Reporting Management Agents
• Tutorial Management Agents

Pre-defined Management Agents are built for a specific connected directory, such as Microsoft Exchange Server. Tutorial Management Agents are used to help create custom Management Agents to use with directories that exist, but have no pre-defined Management Agents available. Generic Management Agents can be used as a template to configure a Custom Management Agent. The Generic Management Agents are built with very general information that you can customize to work with a specific directory. You can use Reporting Management Agents to run reports against your MMS server.
