UDMA Is Not Enabled After You Upgrade to Windows ME (250205)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition (Me), your hard disk may not be configured to use Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA). Note that this issue may occur even if your hard disk and hard disk controller support UDMA.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if Windows Me Setup replaces your hard disk drivers or hard disk controller drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, enable UDMA:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Double-click the Disk Drives branch to expand it, click the hard disk you want to use UDMA with, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Settings tab.
  5. If the UDMA check box is available, click to select the UDMA check box, and then skip to the next step. If the UDMA check box is missing, contact the manufacturer of your hard disk or hard disk controller to inquire about the availability of drivers for your hardware that support UDMA.   6. Click OK, click OK, and then restart your computer.
