SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to place your computer in Hibernation mode by clicking Start, clicking Shut Down, and then clicking Hibernate, the computer may not enter Hibernation mode, or it may return from Hibernation mode immediately.

When this behavior occurs, the Susfail.txt file contains the following error messages:
ECP printer port (lpt1) (bios\*pnp0401\00) denied the suspend.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a multipurpose device (such as a printer/fax device) is connected to an extended capabilities port (an ECP port) and is active (for example, the device is monitoring the port for an incoming fax).

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, disable the active fax or multipurpose device before placing the computer in Hibernation mode.
