SYMPTOMS

After you connect a ViewSonic P817 monitor, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) does not detect it properly when it searches for new hardware; instead, it identifies the monitor simply as a Plug and Play monitor.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and ensure the correct monitor selection, select the driver manually. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Display.
  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click the Advanced button.
  3. Click the Monitor tab, and then click the Change button.
  4. Select Specify the location of the driver (advanced), and then click Next.
  5. Either click Removable Media (Floppy, CD-ROM) and insert the ViewSonic compact disc, or click Specify a location and type the path of your Windows\Inf folder, for example C:\Windows\Inf.
  6. Click ViewSonic P817, and then click Finish.
